Reds announce squad as James Horwill makes a return – Super Rugby update
The return of captain James Horwill to the Reds has boosted the club’s morale for the upcoming clash on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium against Cheetahs in a Super Rugby affair.
Horwill wasn’t present in the previous two matches due to a serious injury he picked on his ankle, but now he has recovered prior to the clash against the South African club.
There is no change in the Reds’ squad other than the return of the skipper and they will be going in against the Cheetahs with the same line up that thrashed Melbourne Rebels with 53-3. Jake Schatz, the back rower for Reds has also recovered and has been
called on bench. Prior to the injury Schatz was skipper to the second Reds XV and is reckoned as a solid player.
Ewen McKenzie, the coach for Reds seems content with the line-up and believes that South African club will be served well. Talking about the return of skipper he said, “James tested his ankle earlier this week and passed with flying colors. He's an important
cog to what we do here so having him back and raring to go bodes well heading into an important stage of our campaign.”
Showing his belief in Schatz, he added, “Jake has played Super Rugby before so he knows what it's all about. He was playing great rugby before the injury so his return to full health is a major boost for us moving forward. He'll bring with him the experience
of playing in almost every game for us last season and he has played all three back row positions for the Reds already.”
Jake Schatz is a versatile player and McKenzie will be using him in starting line in the coming matches. Schatz has been a skilled open side flanker and a lock as well.
