Reds announce two-year contract with Jack Hannahan – MLB News
Surprises keep pouring in like a rain in sultry summer.
The beginning of offseason and the Winter Meetings did not offer any big news in terms of major transactions. However, Cincinnati Reds have made three big moves this week alone to cheer the fans.
On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Reds officially announced signing free agent infielder Jack Hannahan to a two-year contract. The deal with the veteran infielder also includes a club option for a third year.
After the Reds first re-signed free-agent Ryan Ludwick, followed by leadoff hitter Shin-Soo Choo and infielder Jason Donald, signing Hannahan has provided depth to the Reds in almost every position, bringing them to fore as one of the strongest sides to
play next year.
"I think we've got a lot of depth at every position and every category," said Jocketty. "The everyday lineup, for the bench, the bullpen and the starting rotation, I think the competition in Spring Training is healthy and good to have. We'll still get ways
to try and improve the club, but if we don't we'll be fine with what we have."
Offensively, the Reds had multiple feats this past season. The very fact that the offence remained assertive and aggressive throughout the season enabled them to win the National League Central. With recent acquisitions, the Reds are ever stronger now.
Hannahan comes to the Reds after he had fairly good two seasons with the Cleveland Indians, batting .247 with 12 homers, 69 RBIs and 32 doubles.
"It's not that first left, it's that second left coming in," said Hannahan. "I might have that blinker on a little early, but hopefully I'll remember to take that second one."
Providing the Reds another left-handed bat, he will be backing Todd Frazier at the third base. That makes a good combination for the Reds.
With some of the best pitchers available to them, the Reds have now added equally accomplished and in-form batters. Thus that which cannot be attained after being eliminated by the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS, the Reds stand a good chance to do it in
the upcoming season.
