Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 player Mark Lawrenson has called upon the Reds to come out strong against Aston Villa in their next Premier League game, terming it a must-win situation for the Anfield manager, Kenny Dalglish.
The former Reds player, who used to play as a defender, believed that the club is unlikely to sack Dalglish, but at the same time pointed out that the patience was running thin amongst the fans.
"I think one or two people are (mentioning him being sacked), because as a manager in the Premier League, it's a crisis if you lose a couple of games," he said during an interview with BBC radio.
Even though he urged the club to continue with the Scott, he reminded the 61 year old of the importance of winning matches. He described the game against Villa at Anfield in the coming weekend as a must-win situation for both, the manager and the team.
“They have Villa at home at the weekend and I hate saying it's a must-win, but it is.”
“I think he (Dalglish) will be fine, but at any level, you have to win games.”
Liverpool’s woeful run in the Premier League continued, after the Reds lost 2-0 against Newcastle United at the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday. Dalglish’s side have now lost six of their last seven league games, with their lone victory during this period
coming against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 at Anfield.
Currently, the Merseyside team is placed eighth in the league table and their hopes of making it into the Champions League next season are all but extinguished.
Lawrenson also highlighted that the club’s repeated failures to make it into the elite European competition is the reason why they have been unable to lure big players to Anfield. He also caste light on to the fact that the capacity at Anfield is lesser
than the other big clubs at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 currently, hindering the clubs financial progression.
“They're trying to play catch-up with other clubs. Anfield is full at 40,000 every week, but other clubs... http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.”
Lawrenson played for Liverpool from 1981-1988 and has played alongside Dalglish. During this time, he helped the Reds win five league championships. He was critical of the Scott’s lavish signings last year, when the Reds boss landed the duo of Andy Carroll
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 at Anfield for a combined total of almost 55 million pounds. He mentioned that the club cannot pursue the rebuilding process effectively by spending ‘stupid money’, in order to compete with other clubs.
He believed that Carroll is getting more and more frustrated at Anfield, as time goes by and said that the tall English striker is not the same as he used to be.
