Redskins' tight end Logan Paulsen ready to start against Patriots – NFL News
In the absence of tight ends Chris Cooley and Fred Davis, Logan Paulsen has become an apparent option for Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who might introduce the player as starter in the week 14 game of the National Football
League current season against New England Patriots on Sunday.
Selected by Redskins in the 2010 NFL Draft, Paulsen is playing his second season. In his first professional year, he played 11 games, but did not start any. This season, he has played 12 games and started three of them. He has
seven receives for 95 yards with an average of 13.6 yards per reception.
Heading towards getting his fourth start, he is clearly excited.
“I’d be lying if I said that was something that I thought about,” Paulsen said. “But that’s why I’m on the team, to contribute in these types of situations. I’m just excited for the opportunity.”
Paulsen is getting this opportunity because Chris Cooley is no longer available to play owing to knee and hand injuries. The other regular starter, Fred Davis, has been banned for four games by the league for violation of the league’s
substance abuse policy.
The player thinks that it is an unfortunate way of getting a chance. However, he maintained that he will try to fully utilise this opportunity and play a better game against the Patriots.
Since both the players are out of the regular season, the coach is also now relying on Paulsen.
“As Logan is getting some playing time, I think he is feeling more comfortable in our system,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “I think he is enjoying playing, more so now than he ever has, because he is getting to play in game situations.”
Meanwhile, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has also welcomed the call of including Paulsen in the starting line-up. He appreciated the tight end saying that he is a solid player and a hard-worker.
“You don’t see him right away as a pass threat, but we’ve come to believe in him over the two years with him.”
Redskins have lost eight of their 12 games this season and are placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference East division.
