Redskins’ head coach Mike Shanahan comfortable with Andrew Luck as well as Robert Griffin III
Washington Redskins’ head coach, Mike Shanahan, feels himself to be in a comfortable situation with regard to hiring a quarterback in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts as he is satisfied with both Baylor’s Robert Griffin III (RG3) and Stanford’s Andrew Luck.
The Indianapolis Colts own the first overall pick in the drafts and hence they will be the first ones to make a call. Redskins, however, seem satisfied with hiring any of the players.
Shanahan said:
"When you make a move to the second pick, you have to feel comfortable with both guys. You've got to be able to say, 'Hey, I feel great.' And, yeah, I've heard a lot of different things. But whatever happens, you've got to be happy with both."
Redskins are in a rebuilding phase since the last couple of years and the ownership has trusted Shanahan’s abilities and given him complete control over the team affairs.
Shanahan is making a few experiments with the team, and despite the team’s failure in the last season, Redskins were not very much dejected. They could only won five games in the last regular season and lost 11 as they ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division.
Redskins made a meticulous move when they offered to trade the second overall pick with the St. Louis Rams during this offseason.
Shanahan has been observing Luck and RG3, the top two draft prospects, for quite a long time and thinks that both players will fit well into his plans of taking the team to new winning heights. He said:
"I've watched every play that both of these quarterbacks have made since they were freshmen. I've watched every game, every scenario. I've told everybody I feel like you've got two franchise guys.”
He added:
“When you do make a trade, you're excited knowing you're going to get one of the two guys.”
Apparently, the Redskins do not have any problem in hiring either Luck or RG3. They have seen both players in the NFL Scouting Combine and also attended their respective pro days.
Not only that, they have also met with RG3 and are going to host Luck as well. By the looks of the things, Shanahan’s claim of being in a comfortable situation indeed seems to be true.
