Redskins’ receiver Jabar Gaffney and QB Rex Grossman comfortable with each other – NFL News
Washington Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman does not feel worried while sending speedy passes as long as they are caught by wide receiver Jabar Gaffney who is the quarterback’s priority receiver since their college days.
“Ever since Florida, Jabar has been my guy,” Grossman said. “He’s a very smart football player.”
Jabar, a ten-year veteran is playing his first season for the Redskins, where Grossman seems to be enjoying his second year.
Jabar started his professional career with Houston Texans where he played four seasons and moved later to New England Patriots. After spending three years with the Patriots, he became a part of Denver Broncos. After playing two
seasons for the Broncos, he finally joined the Redskins to reunite with his college buddy.
Grossman has played 11 games this season. He has completed 217 passes of 372 attempts for 2,611 yards with a quarterback rating of 71.4.
The quarterback thinks that Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan has done a commendable job by utilising Jabar’s skills and said that he and the receiver have good understanding between them when they are on the field.
“Jabar has been healthy and he has been a consistent route runner, consistent catching the ball,” Grossman said. “That’s all you can ask for. He has a lot of talent. He’s a big receiver who knows exactly where to sit in zones.
We’re on the same page.”
In this season, Jabar has started 13 games. He has 58 receives for 842 yards with an average of 14.5 yards per receive. He also has four touchdowns to his credit. With two more games left for the Redskins to play in the regular
season, Jabar could pass 1,000 yards, which will be a milestone for him as he has never rushed for more than 1,000 yards in one season.
Jabar is excited to know that he has got an opportunity to set a record for himself. Adding to his delight, he could do that with Rex.
“That would be great -- my first 1,000-yard season comes back with Rex,” he said.
Like Rex, Jabar also thinks that he has a good understanding of Rex’s plays and said that it was one of his personal goals to have more than 1,000 yards in a single season.
The Redskins have won five games this season and lost nine. They are placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference East division. They will take on Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles in the week 16 and 17 respectively.
