If you are being made redundant should you be paid for the very first 2 years you have worked at your place of employment as well as being payed for the rest of the years you have worked there,

my step-dad is facing being made redundant next week and his boss says that he doesn't have to pay him for the first 2 years he has been there, my step dad has worked there for 5 years so his boss is saying he is only paying them starting from the third year he has worked there and he doesn't have to pay him for the first 2 years,

is this correct or should he be payed for the first 2 years too??

  1. what country are you in ? suppose different countries have different rules. doesnt sound right to me and ive been through 3 of them. If you have been employed less than two years you are not entitled to redundancy but you should be paid at least the minimum for each yr of service

  2. that doesn't sound right. go to Direct.gov website - it will give you all the details regarding legislation.

  3. He should be paid for each year he has been there, including the first two, sounds like the boss is a tight t**t.

    Try CAB citizens advice.(yellow pages)

  4. Thats wrong, he has to be paid for all the time he has worked there. Get stepdad to phone ACAS on monday morning.
