Redwood favoured to win big in the $ 1.5 million Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine
The 5-year-old Charles Hills trained Redwood is among the record 16 horse field at Woodbine for the Grade 1 $ 1.5 million Pattison Canadian International on 15 October, 2011.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms Inc. in Great Britain, Redwood has had three starts this season, and he has finished on the board twice this season with the 4th place finish in his last start.
The son of High Chaparral, out of Arum Lily by Woodman, Redwood kicked off his season in the Grade 1 Dubai Sheema Classic on turf over his favoured distance 1 ½ miles at Meydan in the U.A.E.
Rewilding took charge in the final furlong and went past Redwood, who finished second behind the winner with the winning time of 2 minutes and 29.01 seconds, Calvados Blues turning in a third place finish.
Next up for Redwood was the Grade 2 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket on 7 July, 2011, over at a distance of 1 ½ miles on turf under his usual jockey M Hills.
Crystal Capella did a Rewilding in this race on Redwood, as he came off the pace and Redwood couldn’t hold him off as he came in breathing down his neck, and took the lead in the final furlong to defeat Redwood.
Redwood finished second once again in two starts as Buthelezi finished third a few lengths off Redwood, as Crystal Capella wrapped up the 1 ½ mile distance in 2 minutes and 31.57 seconds.
The Grade 3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood racecourse was the one to forget for Redwood as he finished way behind the top 3 in 4th position over the same distance of 1 ½ miles and over the same surface, turf on 29 July, 2011.
Redwood in the Pattison Canadian International Stakes will face off with the likes of R Attfield trained Simmard, and Rahystrada is among the favourties too to win the race and pose a significant threat to Redwood’s chances of winning.
Redweood has been pegged as the 4 to 1 slight favourite for the $ 1.5 million event at Woodbine.
