Reed Johnson to be part of Chicago Cubs – MLB Update
The Chicago Cubs on Wednesday are reported to have established contact with Reed Johnson to return to the team. The outfielder, however, has to undergo a physical exam before the club’s formal announcement of a one-year deal.
With so many changes already in place, and with the induction of new players in the Chicago Cubs, the 35-year-old outfielder’s return to the club would be a harbinger of something good to come. Having played a total of 997 games, he maintains an average
of .283 with 451 runs scored. He has 349 RBIs to his credit with 59 home runs that he has hit.
In the year 2011, his performance, compared to many other team-mates, remained wonderful. In 111 games that he appeared, remaining 246 at-bats, he scored 33 runs with an average of .309, having hit a total of 28 RBIs.
Although his team could not live up to the expectations of the fans, he still believed the club had a strong defence. “We've been pretty solid defensively all year and I think that's what has kept us in a lot of ballgames. We're putting ourselves in a good
position to win ballgames. We just couldn't finish the job.”
With the experience and power credentials of Johnson, he is expected to effectively perform once the new season comes into action. Johnson has previously remained the part of the Los Angeles Dodgers too. It is important to mention that of the last four years,
his three seasons’ affiliation has been with the Chicago Cubs. Only for a year, in 2010, did he remain a part of the Dodgers.
Now, that the Chicago Cubs have, in principal, agreed to sign a deal with the player, it is his fitness that will enable him to go ahead with the contract. The Chicago Cubs would surely want him back to repeat the same performance he put on display this
past season. If he manages that, it will indeed be a fair deal for the Chicago Cubs.
