Reed Sorenson to drive for MacDonald at Kansas Lottery 300 – NASCAR news
In a surprising turn of events, Reed Sorenson has found himself a ride just in time for the Kansas Lottery 300 at the Kansas Speedway on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
Reed Sorenson had been fired by Turner Motorsports earlier this week and replaced by Brian Vickers.
MacDonald Motorsports have offered him a drive in their No. 82 Dodge for the Kansas race. MacDonald Motorsports currently have Blake Koch running the No. 81 Dodge in the Nationwide Series, with the No. 82 having run just four times on a part time schedule
this season.
Scott Wimmer was supposed to be driving the No. 82 car in this weekend’s Kansas Lottery 300, after qualifying the in car 28th last weekend at Dover. Owner Randy MacDonald said that Sorenson and Wimmer had worked out the switch between them and Wimmer had
no issues.
“I know [Sorenson] wants to race and he wants to stay as well-placed in the points as he can,” MacDonald said. “We wouldn't even have the car on the track this weekend if it wasn't for [sponsor] K-Love, so we're here to give them as much exposure as we can
-- to get a top-10 if we can.”
This is only a one-race arrangement from both sides, with Sorenson only slotting in for the Kansas race. MacDonald was not sure about what the future held for their relationship.
“It's too early to look beyond this weekend,” MacDonald said. “I think [Sorenson] needs to get in our car and see how we run and where our weaknesses are, and together see how we can overcome some of those weaknesses to meet his expectations.”
MacDonald Motorsports had to move quickly to put Sorenson in the race as the decision was taken very late. The team barely made it and got official clearance to use Sorenson, 90 minutes before Nationwide practice was set to begin.
Sorenson is currently third in the Nationwide Series, 49 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. While he is not expected to challenge for the title anymore, he will be going out there to prove a point to both his former and current employers.
