Reed sorenson leaving ganassi?

i just heard on "the speed report" that reed sorenson is planning on leaving ganassi and going to evernham, and taking target with him as a sponsor. i've seen a few other reports of this being a possibility, but this is a bolt out of the blue to me. so that brings up lots of questions...

how bad has ganassi become when they have to shut down operations on one car and a driver who has been loyal to chip for quite some time says he's looking elsewhere? then their 31st place driver says he's leaving and taking his sponsor too? is jpm next? do you see anyone taking over sorenson's ride? if so, who? does this mean evernham has a fourth team ready, or is something else brewing there?

  1. Jayski reported today that he will likely be in the 10 car and the status of Carpentier is unknown.

I like Reed, but Patrick has been the best rookie this year.  He is overcoming a large learning curve and doing a good job.  He is only going to get better as he gains stock experience.

I hope GEM does not terminate Patrick.  He deserves his ride.

As for Ganassi, maybe they'll just close up shop all together in the next few years.  They have never been a serious Cup contender.  Ganassi favors his open wheel teams and it is obvious.  He also treats his employees like c**p.  I will not be sad to see that organization leave NASCAR.

It also irritated me that Felix Sabates said that Reed "is as good as he is going to get."  Um, possibly, but Ganassi is not top equipment.  I'd be willing to bet that he could do better elsewhere.

  2. Chevron, the mother company of Havoline and Texaco is leaving them next season.  They are leaving at the end of this season. They will no longer be a sponsor in Nascar. http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticN...

There is a rumor they could merge with Michael Waltrip Racing

  3. Really? Maybe going to GEM will help him out.

  4. From what I am hearing it's a done deal with Target staying with Reed as they move to the #10. CGRw/FS is done unless they can find a sponsor for JPM....Chip refuses to run the team out of his pocket. Wrigley's has already commited to 1/2 of 2009....but that's it. Of course it's only rumor now. I have also heard that VALVOLINE may be working on a deal with Petty (which makes me a Petty fan very happy) but I think part of the deal includes Patrick. But Petty and GEM have had an alliance for quite some time....so that wouldn't be a stretch. AGAIN LET ME CLARIFY THAT ALL OF THE ABOVE IS RUMORS I HAVE HEARD/TALKED ABOUT WITH MY BUDDY AND COUSIN WHO ARE EMPLOYED BY A CUP TEAM. And as always...just an opinion too.

  5. From everything I've been hearing it sounds like it could be true.  I hope so for Reed's sake.  He has too much talent to be wasting with CGR and the c**p cars they expect him drive.  If you go to Reed's website and go to his discussion board (it's on Motorsports Lounge) you will find much being said about this rumor.  After what Sabates said about Reed and Texaco I don't see how anyone would want to drive for them or sponsor any of their cars.  JMO.

  6. I would agree wih jaynare.  Reed is a talented driver, Ganassi equipment is mid-tier at best.  Chip reminds me of a rich jerk who blames everything on everyone else.  Don't let the door hit you on the way out....
