  1. I would look into re-class (Changing MOS) I can tell you that my hubby re-uped for 20,000 last year. I think you can get alot more if you look around.

  2. Reenlistment bonuses are set by the DA.  If he wants, he can look up the regulation covering that program  We're approaching the end of a fiscal year in which the Army claims to have met its retention and recruiting goals.

  3. Re-enlistment bonuses are decided by career field and current need in the military.  Many, many fields do not get ANY re-enlistment bonuses at all, while others get ones in the tens of thousands of dollars.  If the military is offering $8,000, than that is the going bonus for someone in your husband's field.  You can not negotiate anything higher, it is a take it or leave it sort of deal.  With three kids, I would think $8,000 (of which you will get half up front, the other half paid out in installments on the anniversy of his re-enlistment for the duration of the enlistment period...and unless he is in a take free duty area, it will be taxed at 28%, taken off the top before any of it is paid out) along with four years of housing and medical care is a good option to consider.

  4. It all depends on how many years he has in the military + how many years he is reenlisting for + his rank + whatever the bonus is at ( 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) + what his MOS is. All that factors into what he will get. If he is reenlisting downrange then he wont be taxed the 28% so thats a plus. You can talk to a recruiter to find all this info out.

  5. I only got $3,000 for 6 years.  I guess it all depends on how critical his MOS is.  I wouldn't try to fight it though.  They might not give you anything at all, lol.  That sounds more like greed than bull.

--my bad...i didn't know the details of your situation...good luck by the way.

  6. That amount is correct.  Use this spreadsheet and visit the following link as well.

If he re-enlists for 6 years once he gets downrange, he'll receive the cap of $11,000 for the deployment bonus.  He can only receive one bonus...meaning if he has a bonus for his MOS and grade, he can't receive the deployment bonus as well...only one or the other.

  7. He might get a bigger bonus if he changes MOS.

  8. It depends on his MOS and his rank. Some times the army is trying to keep in more E-4s and some times an E-5 or E-6 will get a larger bonus. It all depends on what the army needs. He could hold out for more money (the bonuses usually go up after october) but on the other hand, the bonus could disappear completely if the retention for his mos was good.

He may be able to get only $8,000, but he could also probably get a station of choice (if you want ot move some where else) or he could re-enlist for stabilization (if you want to stay where you are at for about 3 more years).

        Good luck.
