  1. absolutism means the lack of a strong parliament. the brits aren't renowned for their emotional response but I can't see them allowing that! it would take the armed forces shutting down the houses of parliament, which Charles 1 tried almost four hundred years ago and lost his head for it.

Can you imagine the armed forces of the good ol' USA allowing some madman to order them to close down the Senate and the House of Reps?

Plus which absolutism needs a madman driving it. We've already had two generations of the only family in the USA that has both the money and the megalomania to do it. Let's hope the Americans will never re-elect the Bush family.

Neither of Charlie Windsor's sons is off-the-wall enough to want to be a dictator. And he only wants to dominate plants.

So I guess the answer is no.

  2. Hello, The queen cannot restore absolute monarchy for the following reason:-  Under the terms of the Magna Carta setting out the liberty and political rights  as laid down by King John at Runnymeade in 1215. It is a seminal document of English Constitutional Practice.

You can see therefore that no reigning monarch can restore absolute monarchy  ever again.

  3. I don't think so.  It seems to me that the only way she could do that would be if the Brits were stupid enough to acquiesce to such a ridiculous attempt.  The English monarchs are smart enough to recall that others of their number have been decisively dispatched by the people when they tried despotic rule.  Remember King Charles I ?  Any attempt on their part to reestablish absolutism would result in almost certain death or banishment.

  4. the real question is, would you let her?

Probably better than this "democracy" bullcrap.

  5. The Queen does have ENORMOUS powers but chooses not to use them. She has the power to declare war, recognize foreign states and make treaties. she gives royal ascent to all laws (which hasn't been denied in 200 years), as well as being Lord High Admiral, and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. However, like i said, she never uses most of the powers given to her, instead appointing ministers. I highly doubt she has the power by herself to become an absolute monarch. Moreover i am sure that no one would stand for it and that she would never try.
