Referees have cost Arsenal the English Premier League season – Part 2
Article continued from Part 1
While the United fans will go to any lengths in denying it, but Manchester United have almost always been on the giving end whenever there are dubious calls by the referee and rarely have they suffered by refereeing blunders. Chelsea has also on the other
hand received a lot of favour from the referees especially in the match against Tottenham where they were awarded offside goals twice. Even http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 would
not have been in a comfortable second.
Arsenal fans are more often than not accused of making lame excuses when they rightly blame the referees. It is said that these excuses are the sole reason why Arsenal fail to win silverware since they cover up the real problems that are faced by Arsene
Wenger and his current crop of players.
My claims can easily be substantiated if we take a closer look at the recent games played by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 both home and away. Although it is true that Arsenal did perform poorly for a major part of the season, we have been treated to refereeing blunders in games
against Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. The critics all have seemed to chalk up a consistent reply whenever such matches are brought up under scrutiny with them saying that Arsenal has to have enough cutting-edge to win the games and overcome
difficulty despite some decisions going against them.
What I truly don’t understand is that they never take into consideration the fact that Arsenal always finds a way to score legitimate goals only for the man in charge to disallow it by virtue of his flawed judgment.
This flawed judgment was displayed very clearly in Arsenal’s matches against Sunderland and Aston Villa where the referee disallowed goals for no reason whatsoever when the replays, the commentators and the match analysts were left absolutely dumbfounded
as to why the legitimate goals were not awarded to Arsenal. The result; we lost one and drew the other one.
When you put together the points that Arsenal would have accumulated had the match officials not committed such blunders, Arsenal would have ended the season a good 8-10 points from where they will finish this Sunday and that could very well have made the
Arsenal fans a little more relieved and less aggrieved.
It is not only the league that we are talking about but also the Champions League where the referee denied Arsenal progression into the quarter-finals of the competition thanks to a highly dubious decision on his part; something of that same nature took
place in the Premier League a few weeks later and the consequences were a lot less harsh.
I have made a note of the matches that the referees have cost Arsenal and here is a list of all those matches marred by dubious officiating.
