Question:

Refinishing the stock on a Shotgun?

by  |  earlier

I was given an old Franchi 48-AL 20ga shotgun by my father. I think it is about 30 years old. Its stock is well worn and I was thinking about having it refinished. How much should I expect this to cost?

Thank you!

  1. I would say between 50-70. Sometime the manufacture will refinish it for you. I know that Marlin gun co does.

  2. i'd just sand it down and put lemon oil on it

unless i can have it ha-ha

but really i did my 30-30 that way

  3. I would expect to pay 100 - 150 to have the stock refinished professionally.  I am sure you could save some money and use your local gunsmith, but your Franchi sounds like a gem, and i am sure you will not regret spending the extra money.

Another idea is to rub the stock down with Hoppes #9 lubricating oil each time you use it - you will be really happy with how it looks.  It gives it a darker hand oiled look.

Buying a DIY kit or getting out the sandpaper seems like a bad idea.  Good luck.
