Reformat acer vista computer...?

Question

Bought an acer vista computer, it did not come with a vista os cd - side note, my last computer did not come with an xp os cd either...I had a virus so I removed all my stuff and restored the computer to 'factory defaults'...Afterwards I still had games and files on the computer, and the virus was still there...Is there anything I can do besides buying a vista os cd?
