Refried beans from a can?

How do you make refried beans from a can taste great like they came from a restaurant?

Sometimes we add sauce packets from taco bell.

I like to spice up my refried beans like this:

put some butter in a skillet, fry some ground cumin and a finely chopped clove of garlic in it, add beans, tabasco, grated cheese, and a dollop of sour cream. salt to taste.

garnish with red onions and coriander (cilantro). you can also add a fresh tomato salsa.

This is how I "doctor" up a 16 oz can of refried beans.  Put tablespoon bacon grease in a sauce pan.  When the bacon grease is hot, add the refried beans, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup picante sauce, a tablespoon each of fajita seasoning and ground cumin, and salt and fresh ground pepper to taste.  Stir the beans well, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Serve topped with finely grated cheddar cheese.

empty the can in to a pan and cook on stove on medium until they sizle. then add some rice to it and sprinkle chesse on top. Yum!! :)

I'm not sure that you can.  the canning process is hard on most foods which is why green beans don't taste anything like fresh green beans.  

Refried beans are simple to make yourself with some pinto beans and bacon and onions.  Google and you'll find alot of recipes.

Refried beans from a can?

All you have to do is boil some pinto beans until you can grab one and smush it with your fingers. Then put some in a pan with a little vegetable oil and start smashing away! It's so simple and tastes better than canned refried beans.

a co-worker taught me this trick.... I buy pinto beans in a can (usually sun valley) then I  cook a slice or two of chopped bacon and some onions (maybe a quarter) ...when the bacon/onion mixture is hot and the beans are almost boiling  I add the bacon/oil/onions to the beans. Mash the beans to your desired consistency. It is really easy, fast, and taste much better than can refried beans. If you don't want to add meat to the beans just cook the onions a couple of tablespoons of oil.

Try warming them slowly...and dont overcook them...they can dry out. I heat mine up over a warm or low setting stirring frequently until I get the right consistensy.

I havent got it exactly right yet. I usually add a little water while Im heating them but there has to be something else you could add to give it more flavor like broth or butter something.

Pork fat works well but usually when cooking from scratch or whole beans. I really think lard is what you should add to them. When I eat at my local taco stops its all that fat and grease in my tacos that makes taste so good.

Try mixing beans with lard or for more low fat a broth. Sometimes you can add oil if its still not the right consistency.

then season to your liking.

There is not really anything you can do to can refried beans to make then taste like resturant. Maybe add cheese and green onions and mix it up. If you want to go with pinto beans whole (not refried). Cook bacon and cut it up, dice onion, dice tomatoe, chop up green onion and diced green chile. Add it all together with the beans and cook until the onions are soft. Everyone loves this.
