I am using appliance bulbs. We have two refrigerators, the light in the kitchen frig will not last over a couple of days, while the one in the garage has been there for several years. Any ideas.

  1. That does sound odd. Appliance bulbs have a heavier filament and should last a long time. The causes could be two fold. Not knowing the age of that fridge I can only speculate as to the reasons.

1: If the fridge has some age to it and it sounds like you have changed the bulb on a number of occasions, then the contact tab inside the socket may have been forced down far enough to make the bulb arc due to it double grounding. If you can look into the socket you may notice a slight to very evident blackening inside its base. You can try and pull the tab out slightly but make sure the power is off if you attempt this otherwise you could get quite a jolt.

2: the other reason could be an internal wiring problem that is best left to a qualified electrician.

3: Socket also could be the victim of some kind of moisture over the years, something spillt and got into it.

I would lean towards the first cause and then take it from there.
