Refrigerator is not making ice but water dispenser is working fine. What is my problem?

I have a kitchenaid side by side refrigerator. Model number is KSRS27C. Everything was working fine until after a power outtage (lasted only 10 secs). After that my ice maker stopped making ice but water dispenser is working fine. I had changed the ice maker once before but at that time it still filled the tray in the ice maker. Now, it doesn't even fill the tray. What is the most likely resolution for this? I don't mind getting a new ice maker but I want to make sure its that and not something else that could've been easily resolved.

  1. pour water into the mold of the i/m by hand if it dumps the ice the water valve behind the box is bad. when you remove the 1/4 plastic tube for the i/m at the water valve blow into it to see if it is clear sometimes ice will block the fill tube. if you what to see the i/m run forced harvest you need a insulated wire about 6 inches long strip the insulation about 2 inches each side. remove the front  cover on the i/m you will see a bunch of holes the two you need are T and H jump them out and the I/M should start. if no water goes in the daul valve may be bad.

  2. There is several things that can cause this. The most probable thing is for the water delivery tube being frozen and not allowing the water to pass. If not, it may be the water valve down in the back. Take a look at this site and see if you can spot your problem. -

  3. The power outage could have fried the emitter boards that tell your ice make to make ice.  Open the freezer door and look on the right side of the freezer where you turn the i/m on and off.  If the little light flashes twice then pauses, great.  Now hold down the flapper on the left side of the freezer, make sure not to block the hole.  Does the light turn solid on the right.  If it's on, great.  If either of these tests fail, you probably have a faulty emitter board.  If those function properly, then most likely your i/m needs to be replaced.   7 out of 10 i/m's that I see not making ice, it is because of the ice maker.  2 out of ten, frozen fill line.  1 out of 10, emitter board.

  4. your water valve could be clogged. Or the water line going to ice maker could be frozen up take out ice tray and check the line where it goes into ice maker. They are usually plastic and you can squeeze them to check if they are frozen. If frozen you might turn down your freezer setting but the quickest way to defrost it is to get a hair dryer and heat up the line until it gets moving again

  5. The ice maker could be jammed or clogged

  6. may well be the timer on the ice maker is not working.   why not try lifting the wire arm that tells the ice maker to start and stop.   take it all the way up then push it back down, do that several times to see if that may get things started again.   the ice maker has nothing to do with the water dispenser except that both are connected to the same water pipe.

it may also be that the water line to the freezer is clogged and therefore not letting the water through.  you might want to try to disconnect that water line up near the freezer to see if that's the problem.   try blowing into the line that enters the freezer.     shut the water off first.

    good luck to ya
