There is a odor that seems to be comming from under the refrigarator.

My refrigarator is very clean on the interior, and less than a year old. It has new water filter, and built in ice maker as well. Anyone know what is causing the odor, and how to eliminate it ?

  1. Do you know that there is a pan that holds water condensation, and it is located there on the bottom of the refrigerator. Take it out and clean it. then, put it back. you might wanna disconnect the power to the refrigerator to prevent yourself to get shocked.

  2. Check and see if there're spills trapped under the refrigarator. I remember seeing food and things after pulling the frig out at my house.

  3. You could have a dead rodent or your water tray has foul water in it either way you need to inspect under the frig by tilting it and shining a light in there the tray can be removed by hand:)

  4. Remove the front cover under the fridge and you can see a drain pan there then pull it out and check if the odor is coming from that pan, if it is clean and no odor then remove the back cover and check if there's a dead mouse or lizard.

  5. did you try moving it to see what's undert maybe a puddle of water ?

  6. Rodents get attracted to the water in the evaporation pan and it is not unusual to find one down there.

  7. Most modern refrigerators have the condenser and the compressor on the bottom of the unit. I suspect you may have a very tiny water leak where the water source pipe and the refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser. You may not see any water under the refrigerator because the warm air from the condenser will eventually evaporate the water. However, there may be enough moisture there for mold and fungus to grow. First make sure there are absolutely no water leaks no matter how small. Second pull out the refrigerator and thoroughly clean the floor under the unit with chlorine based cleaner like Clorox Cleaner. Also have someone tilt the refrigerator backward and spray the same solution underneath the refrigerator itself. If the odor disappears for couple of days then you have a tiny water leak. Also make sure the baffle at the front bottom of the refrigerator is dust free and clean. And also vacuum any dust underneath the refrigerator itself.
