Question:

Refrigerator runs too much?

Here's how my refigerator works: The compressor runs for about 15 minutes, then it stops for 30 minutes and restarts for another 15 minutes. So if my maths are right it runs about one third of the time. Is this normal or is it possible to get a better fridge? It really matters because it makes noise and I sleep in the same room.

Somebody told me that he has a fridge that starts only every two hours but I don't know if that's true.

  1. the new ones that saves on energy are the best, sometimes you dont even know  if its on,....sounds like yours is really old and needs to be replaced....

  2. Pull it out, find out where the air intake and heat coils are (Either on the back or under it) and make sure you remove ALL the dust, dirt, and accumulated c**p off of it!

Then check the seal of the doors. If it leaks, you can buy replacement seals at Home Depot or some place like that.

Worst case? Save up some cash and buy a new one. It is a heavy cost up front, but with your old one running so hard, you will make the purchase price back in a few months once your electric bills start to go down!

  3. Make sure there are no leaks in the door. That would cause it to re-start prematurely like its doing.

Check to make sure there is no frost build-up on the refridgerant coils. Clean it thoroughly.
