Question:

Refrigerator trouble ~ Won't get cold?

I had a power failure in my house, and 6 hours after the power went back on, my refrigerator is running but nothing is cold.

Could this be like a process of resetting/rebooting (or otherwise defrosting itself)? Will it start running cold again eventually? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

  1. It sounds like the thermostat went bad. It would probably be cheaper in the long run to buy a new one. Most repairmen charge between $50 to $100 per hour and a fee to just show up at your door. Then there are the parts. It could also be low on refrigerant. Look at the coil in back, if it's frosted up, it's low on refrigerant. That could be quite expensive to fix.

  2. You'll have to see if the compressor is running by gently touching it and feel for heat.If it's cold or does'nt appear to be running, check the cold control in the cabinet to make sure it's calling.
