I found this ad on craigslist "2 years old GE profile french door fridge (you know, the kind with 2 doors on the top and a pull out drawer for the freezer?). I just moved up from L.A. and it refuses to cool either the fridge or the freezer. I can hear the compressor and fan(s) running, but no cool air is generated cost $1900 new 2 years ago"

They are asking $150, so is that going to be an expensive fix do you think?

  1. get the model # and seril # and go to GE web site for age and recalls also some refrigerator have 5year warranty

  2. If it was cheap to fix they would have had it fixed, don't you think?  Sounds like it was damaged in moving.

I don't want to sound like a wise a** but you usually get what you pay for.

  3. I am not exactly buying the story. It could be stolen. Many homes in foreclosure are being stripped.

And if they damaged it and they lost the refrigerant it could need a new compressor and condenser coils. That could mean most of a $1,000.

I agree if only 2 years old and $1,900 new they got an estimate on it and know it is not worth fixing. The compressor is likely still in warranty but not if damaged in moving.

There is something wrong going on here.

  4. No...That is not expensive..It is only 2 years old, get it fixed. Cheaper than buying a new one and GE profile is pretty good (that is what I have)
