  1. Do you mean refugium? What type of animal or fish will you be keeping? This will be the source in determining whether or not you will need a heater, and what temperature you should set it at.

  2. You need to determine at first if you really need a refugium. You only need one mainly if you will have a reef tank containing live corals in it. Otherwise, it is not necessary and a good protein skimmer would do the job. As far as the heater I don't even recommend one if you will have it indoors. A cool aquarium at all times is best than one that can easily become over-heated by mistake. If you will keep it indoors, fish will strive perfectly under the same temperature that you live in. If you live up north and will keep it outdoors during the winter time, then you might consider a heater. By personal experience over years, I have experienced that aquariums are better off without coolers and heaters. As long as you turn on your apartment or house's A/C every once in a while, the water temperature will remain in between 68-82 degrees, which is optimal for aquariums. If you determine that you really need the heater, just use it in the aquarium and not in the refugium. Your refugium will have way to many cables from the water pump and wave makers that it will become problematic to add more stuff in there. Also, too much heat may harm the good algae that you will have in your refugium to work as a natural filter beneficial to your aquarium.
