To all my Tech Savvy NRIs or RI brothers (sisters also) to the topic now, i am planning to buy Yamaha RX-V663 or Onkyo TX-SR705 or Denon AVR 2808CI in the US and use it here for 15 months and will be returning to India can i use a Step down Transformer, i had a reply from Yamaha officially that i can use them with 1.5 times the rated Receivers power consumption, but Onkyo said never use them, has any one used Onkyo in this manner please reply ASAP, since the Onkyo TX-SR705 has more features for the buck and am getting a Great price for Denon AVR 2808. Thanks in Advance for the Answers

Just to add a Point here I had written to Yamaha USA they replied stating that i can very well use the receiver without any issue as their transformers are DC i did not quite delve into much details, but the warranty i cant get a international one since i will be here for one year in the US makes sense to buy here, dont know if i can get it shiped from singapore which offers dual voltage with same price

  1. You can use them with stepdown transformers (in fact there are special audiophile grade power supplies to do so). Yamaha is telling you as the facts are and Onkyo is being more conservative so as to avoid problems in future.

However read the fine print. Most of them will be left without a warranty. My suggestion to you is to buy one in India itself if you are planning to use it more in India.

Another suggestion, hear the models that you like with some of your own material and then decide for yourself which one sounds the best.
