Regal One to continue showing Irish promise in Newton Abbot’s Jack Bevan Your Local Bookmaker Since 1897 Novices´ Handicap Hurdle
Jack Bevan Your Local Bookmaker Since 1897 Novices´ Handicap Hurdle is a decent little handicap, but Newton Abbot’s soft surface has complicated the matters. Majority of the participants loves a sounder ground, which is not available for Monday’s class 3
meeting.
Therefore, the bettors need to make their moves meticulously. The soft going is likely to spoil the party of a few, but it should not be a concern for Regal One, who seemed to like it in Ireland.
After facing a bitter loss at Punchestown in late May, J. F. O'Shea’s charge returned strongly to show a solid act at Clonmel in the mid of June.
On a soft ground, the 4-1 chance ran superbly to ensure the runner-up spot in the Suir Valley INH Flat Race (Div II). In the hands of Mr J. J. Slevin, the skilful runner went second a furlong before the wire. He stayed on well in the final stages to seize
the second spot, missing the top position only by half a length.
He continued to travel nicely on Ireland’s soft ground. The spectators at Stratford saw him ending up fourth in the Ian And June Maiden Hurdle at the start of August.
His constant good performance in testing conditions is good enough to believe that he can come up with goods this time. He has seven horses to face in today’s 2-mile 1-furlong clash. As per the plan, the action will be commenced at 15:00 GMT. A cash prize
of £5,198 is reserved for the successful horse.
Gud Day was an easy Uttoxeter winner, but a similar act here on soft surface is unlikely. Finch Flyer is on a hat-trick, and looks to be in great shape at the moment. However, a 6lb rise will be a tough thing to tackle. Quadriller was fourth in a soft-ground
maiden here on debut for new yard.
With most of the contenders likely to struggle on Newton Abbot’s soft surface, it is an ideal chance for Regal one to get off the mark. He surely has the guts to steal the show. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
