Regally Ready read to take on the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes field for his first start of the 2012 season
The 5-year-old Steven Asmussen trained gelding, Regally Ready, started his 2011 campaign brightly by posting a placed finish in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes and then registered 4 wins on the trot, and the Kentucky bred son of More than Ready capped off the
2011 season with a win in the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes and aced the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Out of his 9 starts in 2011, Regally Ready, went on to land six races with two third place finishes and an uncharacteristic 10th place to show in the Grade 3 Turf Monster Handicap at Parx Racing, a venue where he has never raced before.
Vinery Stables owned gelding did pretty well in his 4-year-old career, and a lot more will be expected from Regally Ready, when he goes out to test his mettle in the Grade 3, $100,000 Daytona Stakes as a 5-year-old this time around.
Similar start to his 5-year-old season, as he finished third in the Daytona Stakes last year, but this time around he will face the likes of Caracortado, who finished fifth in the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Mr. Guff will look to post back to back
wins after exiting a victory in the Night Mover Stakes.
The Grade 3 Daytona Stakes will be held at Santa Anita Park over its hillside grass course, over a distance of six and a half furlongs on 8 January, 2012, a race which is exclusive for 4-year-old and above males.
Out of mare Kivi by King of Kings, Regally Ready, is one of the three finalists for an Eclipse Award in the category of nation’s outstanding male sprinter.
Regally Ready has raced over Santa Anita Park’s hillside turf course over a distance of six and a half furlongs quite a few times. He has been successful over the same distance at the same venue 3 times out of 4 starts.
He landed back to back Grade 3 wins at Santa Anita’s turf course earlier in 2011, winning the Grade 3 Joe Hernandez Stakes and then went on to bag the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes.
The only time he lost at the Santa Anita turf course was when he ran in the Daytona Stakes, but this time his connections would be looking to get it right and kick start their 2012 campaign with a win.
