Regally Ready took his first tour of the Meydan after clearing quarantine
Arrived at the Meydan on 27 February, 2012, as Regally Ready inspected the vast racecourse with a gentle walk after clearing quarantine on 1 March, 2012, where he is aiming for the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint on 31 March, 2012, with the massive purse of $1 million.
Trained by Steven Asmussen for Vinery Stables, the 5-year-old gelding is an accomplished sprinter in the U.S and Canada, capping off his 2011 campaign with a win in the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint going five furlongs in 56.48 seconds at Churchill Downs
on 5 November, 2011, defeating the likes of Country Day in second and Perfect Officer in third.
The Kentucky bred son of More Than Ready had 9 starts in the previous season, out of those he won 6 and placed 2, with a lone uncharacteristic 10th place finish in the Grade 3 Turf Monster Handicap at Parx Racing to winner Ben’s Cat.
Out of mare Kivi by King of Kings, Regally Ready scored big coming into the Breeders’ Cup, when he nabbed the all important Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine on 16 October, 2011, going over a distance of six furlongs under his usual jockey Corey Nakatani.
Regally Ready covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 11.35 seconds, and in the process defeated Bated Breath in second and Gypsy Ring in third.
He made his 2012 debut at Santa Anita Park’s turf course where he went out for a hat-trick in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes, but couldn’t overhaul the fast Caracortado in the six and a half furlong event and finished third on 8 January, 2012.
“He went to the track this morning and was nice and relaxed,” said John Nicholls. “He looks well and strong, so he’s over the first hurdle—the flight did not seem to take much out of him.”
Regally Ready has a plan all mapped out for his Dubai trip, as the sprinter will go through a prep race before the big sprint in the $175,000 Meydan Sprint over a distance of five furlongs on 10 March, 2012, and then for the Al Quoz Sprint on the Dubai World
Cup program.
