Regan Leong captures Boys 200m freestyle gold – State Teams SC Championships
Regan Leong of QLD captured gold medal of the Boys 200m freestyle in 16-17 years age category on third day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 17-year-old Leong remained considerably ahead of his opponents from the start and surfaced on the wall for gold medal.
With his immaculate efforts in the discipline, Leong enjoyed a lead of one body length over his following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 48.16 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by his teammate, Robert Gerlach, who was 1.12 seconds apart and proved his mettle for second spot of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 49.28 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Lachlan Wells of VIC, who stayed 1.08 seconds behind and occupied third position of the race by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 50.36 seconds.
Wells was followed by Jack Gerrard of VIC, who was 0.52 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall was fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.88 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Jacob Hansford of NSW, who was 0.40 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 51.28 seconds.
Hansford was chased by Lachlan McLeish of VIC, who remained 0.99 seconds behind and cruised his way towards the finishing end for sixth position by producing a time of 1 minute and 52.27 seconds.
McLeish was traced by Hayden Lewis of SA, who stayed 1.15 seconds behind and appeared on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 1 minute and 53.42 seconds.
Lewis was followed by Andrew Walker of WA, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and reported an effort of 1 minute and 53.48 seconds for last spot of the race.
In addition, Leong was pleased with his gold finish in the national event and collected medal for his notable form after the event.
