Regan Leong seizes Men’s 200m freestyle gold – Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Regan Leong of Australia Gold seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival at Berkeley Aquatic Club, on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
The 17-year-old Leong faced tough contest from his foregoing finisher but with his notable efforts in the race, he managed to occupy the title. With his gruelling efforts, Leong gained a slight lead over his opponents in the start and tapped the wall for gold medal.
His gruelling effort remained only a touch ahead of his closest competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.97 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Alexander Graham of Australia Green, who was 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 48.99 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Mack Horton of Australia Green, who was 1.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and secured bronze medal of the race by posting an effort of 1 minute and 50.19 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Toru Maruyama of Japan, who was 0.51 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 50.70 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Luiz Lopes Melo of Brazil who stayed only 0.03 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 50.73 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Benjamin Gratz of Hungary, who was almost half body length behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 51.50 seconds.
Gratz was traced by Samuel Perry of New Zealand, who stayed considerably slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 54.11 seconds for seventh place.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Damian Fyfe of Australia Gold, who was 1.73 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 55.84 seconds.
Furthermore, Leong received a huge round of applause from the crowd for his notable efforts.
