If you just got a blue ray dvd player and you currently have a movie collection. Would you start replacing your most favorite movies in your collection with blue ray disks?

Or would you just start buying the new movies that come out and play your favorite dvd's the way they are?

I have these regular dvd's and would like the upgraded version in blue ray....is it worth doing?

Some I am considering:

Pirates of the Carribien Series

Lord of the Rings...when it comes out

Monster house

Resident Evil Series....

What would you do?

  1. I will make the jump to blu-ray when the "Star Wars" trilogy makes it's debut .

  2. You can hardly tell the difference between upconverted dvd and BR.  I'd be very selective about which I re-buy on BR considering the difference in cost - overpriced I think.

  3. well i have blu ray and regular dvd's and yes is is a little noticeable in some parts in a movie but is it worth $30.00 a movie NO not at this time everything is new and things are changing so i would wait till dvd's are obsolete. till then save your money for now and buy just dvds

  4. Anybody who says that there is no difference or hardly a difference between upconverted or blu-ray either doesn't know much about home theater or is not viewing it on a very good display.  Not only is the picture far superior, but the sound is as well.  Upconverted DVD's cannot support HD audio (Dolby True HD, DTS-HD)  I have "double dipped" on a few of my favorite movies, or movies that I always thought would just be cool in blu-ray, like Independence Day.  The Pirates series looks AWESOME in blu-ray, that is definately worth it.  The disney pixar animated movies are also great if you like them or have kids.

  5. If it's a movie I really love and of a video style that would really benefit from HD (science fiction, spectacular scenary) and want to watch several times, I'd buy the Blu-ray disk ... but I'd look for it on sale before buying.

For most movies, I'd only buy new movies that justify HD. I'd not bother with normal comedies or dramas (i.e. I'd biy buy them on DVD) ... unless Blu-ray drops in price to within a couple of dollars of DVD, in which case I'd probably buy all Blu-ray.
