Hi all,

This is an actual Rugby League question.

But i was really curious especially today to finding out why the Roosters and the Dragons play each other every ANZAC match? And also why the Dragons and Rabbitohs play each other for the Charity Sheild every year?

Why isnt it different teams every year?

I dont follow footy that much and im not either teams supporter. I just couldnt find an answer.

Would anyone know?

And no smart arses ... like i said, i dont follow footy that much but im just curious.

Thank you

  1. Yeah it's just always like that, and it should stay that way.

It's just like how Collingwood and Essendon always play the Anzac Day match in AFL as well.

  2. gaz - this is an NRL question, go answer your s**+,tty little afl questions somewhere else where no-one can read them

  3. It's to do with tradition and promotions. Both of these teams have quite a huge supporter base, so they are guaranteed of good attendance every year. I thought tonight's ANZAC game was awesome! Loved it!

Welcome to the League! Its great to see another chick joining the ranks..!

  4. its like what nat & frozbogg say its traditional.

  5. The Charity Shield is contested only by the Rabbitohs and Dragons. It is simply a pre-season darby match, because the two teams have a storied history between them.

Likewise with the ANZAC Day match between the Dragons and Roosters. Both teams were founding clubs 100 years ago, and it is just tradition that they play against each other on ANZAC Day.

The same sort of scenario occurs in the AFL.
