Try getting a hold of David Gerrolds third book in the series on the War Against the Chtorr. I think it is called "A Rage for Revenge". In it, the main character goes to a Werner Erhardt-like seminar, called "The Mode" training.

Basically, it's about waking-up to the fact, that you going to die. And that you have a choice about how to spend your time in the mean-time.
