Could someone tell me please, what does "We provide low student-to-teacher ratios and in-house training" mean?

It was an Ad. with it on craigslist.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Small groups, and training is provided.

  2. Depending on what state you live or work in, your legal student to teacher ratios will/may vary from others. In Washington they are as follows:

    Student:Teacher

    Infants   4:1   6wks-12mths

    Toddlers  7:1   12mths-2yrs

    Preschool 10:1  3yrs-4yrs (also young 5's)

    School age 15:1  5yrs-12yrs

When they say low ratios, they mean there could be, or always is a lower amount of children to teachers than the max required by law to be kept by any childcare provider.

That means instead of 4 infants and only one teacher, they may have 2 teachers in that class so each child may have more one on one time with a teacher. Hope that answers your question.

Also the training means that they will offer training in childcare either within the facility  or possibly they will pay for occasional training in the facility. Most won't pay for ALL your training because there is a 10 hrs of STARS training a year required by law for any childcare staff.

  3. Low student to teacher ratio means the number of students per teacher. Hence "low ratio" means only a few students per each teacher.

"In-house training" means that they will train the applicant in the place of business.

Please, be careful when applying for positions posted on websites such as craigslist. You should always meet in a public place first. Please be aware of the recent situation involving a young woman who applied for an in-home nanny position in Minnesota and was murdered. She went to the home and not to a public location for the interview. Please be safe.
