  1. i would go with the cockatiel. quakers and african grey parrots are usually not a good beginning parrot for someone. unlike parakeets and smaller birds parrots are require a lot of time and interaction, usually outside the cage. if they don't get the time and attention they ned with their human they can develop any number of issues from pulling their own feathers to being destructive and mean and larger parrots can inflict a nasty bite. cockatiel's require the attention of their owners too, but aren't near as demanding ( if parrots don't get their need met they tend to scream). i would go with a starter bird like a parakeet, but if you want a larger bird then go with the cockatiel. a good cockatiel book is very helpful. i have 5 parakeets and a pair of canaries and i still check my books every once in a while. good luck

  2. All larger birds take a lot of work. Even small birds take a lot of work. I don't mean physical, like taking them out for a walk. I mean emotionally and mentally. The larger parrots, like African Grays, Quakers, Macaws, Amazons, Cockatoos, Conures even cockatiels need lots of time spent with them. If you want a bird that you don't have to do much with, that will be happy with just staying in its cage for the majority of the time, then budgies, parolettes, finches, even lovebirds would be good choices. Another thing that should be taken in to account, is noise. Birds love to make noise, some more than others.

Are you looking for something specific in a bird?

  3. as long as ur kid is not annoying and wont stick his fingers in their beaks than all are suitable....we had  birds all our lives and our rose ringed parakeet was my 8yr old brothers guard dog...i know it sounds like wtf! but he wouldnt let anyone touch my brother....birds are great...so as long as ur kid is calm and wont annoy the parrot its al good
