I'm going to be majoring in computer science. However, I have no experience programming and have never taken a class on it. Will the beginning computer science class be too much for me?

  1. You will see after your beginner class if you actually like it. Many a kid have changed their majors after the 101 classes...

  2. I have a buddy who was a Comp Sci. major. All I know is that it is tons of hard math and that was enough to disinterest me.

  3. if it's begginers than i think you will be able to handdle it if you are willing to learn and work hard to achive your goal.

  4. You might be alright, but it doesn't hurt to get some experience anyway. You can start learning C++ with these video tutorials:

    http://xoax.net/comp/cpp/console/index.p...

They are perfect for beginners. This one can get you started by showing you how to install a free compiler:

Here are some simple games with code downloads that you can use to get some ideas:

    http://xoax.net/comp/cpp/console/Lesson2...

    http://xoax.net/comp/cpp/console/Lesson2...

These tutorials can get you started with graphics programming in OpenGL:

    http://xoax.net/comp/cpp/opengl/index.ph...

You can go through the tutorials and if you have questions on them or anything else in C++, please post to me here:

    Best of luck!

  5. your a great kid...

  6. just study....

  7. No.  The beginning classes are usually all about the history of processers, how the basic functions of the computers work, registry, BIOS, hardware/software interface, boolean....that kind of thing

  8. just as a precaution, you might want to start programming ahead of time.

download a free programming tool(or illegal programming tool, if you dare) and read some online tutorials. I just finished a grade 10 visual basic course, and am now using a VB6 imitation tool to better my skills.

and math does help, if you're coding in C+, or the like.

  9. No, the beginning stuff is pretty easy. History, basic stuff, etc. You'll be fine.
