Question:

Regarding my duck's p**p?

I have two ducklings, both about 3 weeks old. I'm a little concerned about their p**p. Sometimes it's really really watery, sometimes it's mostly solid, sometimes it's green/grey, sometimes it's a dark brown and when it is, it's usually watery. And sometimes their poo is a lightish almost milky light brown that smells terrible, like really bad. Should I have reason to worry? That they may be sick?

  1. Well maybe it is what they are eating, ask veterinarian what other foods might be acceptable and see if their p**p looks more healthier.

  2. My ducks always vary depending upon how much water they drink, how much mud they're wallowing in, etc. If our ducks are kept in a cage and fed a consistent amount of food and water, there MIGHT be cause to worry, but honestly they always have a very odd unique way of pooing. lol.

I have some 30+ ducks as well as babies every single year. We've got 15 babies this year :), it makes up quite a duck population.

  3. Ducks walk around and eat all sorts of junk, dead leaves, bugs, duck food (of course) berries, etc. Mine had different colored p**p sometimes too, depending on where it had been in the yard that day :D

*Add: I honestly just fed my duck regular duck food from the feed store. The Pro-Stock brand. I know they were having problems with some of the high growth chicken food causing heart attacks in some chickens. I mostly fed them duck finisher, but in the winter when they needed a little extra I would mix in some duck grower. They did great. Mine loved lettuce too :D

  4. Ducks evacuate urine and stool from the same opening, so its not unusual for the p**p to be of different textures.  The only thing that sounds a little off is that you are feeding them chicken feed.  They shouldn't have any medicated feed.  Game bird pellets is more appropriate.  Most chicken feed is loaded with additives to treat common poultry disease and high in protein to increase growth.  Ducks don't need either.  If they grow too quickly they will damage their legs and the medications are toxic to them.
