Regarding my earlier question. water in gearbox?

It dosent seem to be that much water, on the dipstick it is like a dark grey colour, also i think the water got in there through boat taking alot of rain water and it getting in through dipstick housing, cheers to all those who answered earlier

  1. i don't know what type of gearbox you got,could be seals gone on a oil cooler,


  2. Dark grey means the water is emulsified in the oil. You need to change that oil right away and make sure it came in the way that you said.

  3. Do get that oil drained though.  You need to get the water out of the gearbox.  Glad you know how it got in there.

  4. I'm guessing that you have a inboard engine,and the gear box is the crankcase,and the engine compartment filled with water up above the dip stick.If all the above is correct,then yes the water could have entered through the tube.then here is a few things that you have to do.

    1)change the oil

    2)change all filters,oil,fuel, water separator

    3)remove and dry/clean the starter,alternator

    4)remove and clean distributor cap,rotor,and clean and dry the point and contacts if your engine has this type of ignition.

    5)start engine and run up to full operating temp.

    Doing all of this is pointless unless you have determined the source of the water in the engine compartment,and repaired the cause.

  5. could have come in the rear seal. Change the oil
