  1. Wrong timer or it is wired incorrectly.

If your replacement timer came with one loose motor wire, as most replacements timers do, then you put it on the wrong pin.  Move it to the other one per the instructions. I know it is difficult to determine sometimes. But if I recall correctly most timers these days should have that wire on pin three.

What is most likely happening it is currently wired so when it switches in to defrost you lose the voltage to the timer motor and it never times out.

    Good Luck.

  2. The defrost cycle should last about 20 minutes if im not mistaken. When you touch the defrost timer, does it feel really hot? That would indicate the motor is trying to turn the timer but its getting stuck. If you are certain you wired the timer up correctly, it could be a bad timer.
