  1. They make harnesses with leashes for taking birds outside ,so that they don't fly away. As far as inside the house, the only way I know is to clip the birds wings. I think it is possible to clip them one or two times while you are training them to step-up and stay on you hand or play stand, then once they've gotten this down you can let them grow out. I got my Lorikeet then end of April and haven't hard her wings clipped since then and she stays on my hand, she never flies off or around the house. I do caution you though, if you let the wings grow out, always have windows and doors closed when the bird is out, because they can fly out very quickly. And yes there are people who train their bird to fly to them or where ever they want them to go to on command. Try looking on the internet for that or asking that specific question on here. Hope this helps.

  2. No parrots do not HAVE to be clipped. I never clip the wings of any of my birds and if they fly well its always in doors anyhow. Keep your bird in the cage if you don't want it to fly, or teach it when it flys it gets put back into the cage. Eventually the bird will figure out if it flys you will put it back into it's cage, so if it wants to remain outside the cage, it is not allowed to fly.

  3. We have an African Grey Parrot whom we have trained to only fly when we say it's okay to fly.  She spends most of the day out of her cage and has NEVER had her wings clipped and never will have them done !!!

Basically, she knows it's okay to fly when her ladder is attached to her cage, and knows it's naughty when the ladder is not there.  The way we trained her is whenever she flew when the ladder wasn't there she was locked back into her cage for a while.  Doesn't take them long to work it out, they are very intelligent creatures :o)  You do have to be extremely safety conscious though during training because they can easily hurt themselves,  windows (and mirrors) are the most dangerous because they just don't see the glass until it's too late.  Also (like has already been said) make doubley sure all windows and doors are closed before you open the cage door !!
