My dad recently brought forth a question he has never heard an answer to... The five second rule is a commonly known rule that states you have five seconds from the time a piece of food falls to the time you pick it up and eat it. Does this rule rule apply to pudding??? Or applesaucece?

  1. lol no thats gross :P

  2. In my opinion, no.  The 5 second rule only applies to food that you can pick up with your fingers!  : )

  3. It depends: is the floor carpeted or not?

  4. I actually saw this experiment tested on a show. And the MOMENT the item of food touches the dirty floor, it is contaminated. So once you drop it, clean it up, dont eat it! :P

  5. Only if you get down and tongue it off the ground.

  6. yes.

    the rules are as follows:

    general items fallen: 5 seconds

items fallen on dirt or dust: 3 seconds

Items fallen onto very dirty unsanitary flooring: 1.25 seconds

items fallen into poo: eat at own discretion - or 0.126 seconds from intial contact

  7. Oh god no it doesnt apply to anyfood that has sticky sides or anything that isnt solid

are you gonna slurp the liquidy pudding at the five second mark gross

  8. It is more like the 30 second rule according to Mythbusters. Wood floors, tile floors, countertops are generally safe if the food is rised off. It is when it hits fabric, ie couches and chair where you can run into fecal matter contamination. Look it up....

  9. It doesn't apply to wet food because there will be plenty more germs on wet food than there would be on, say, a jelly bean. The germs come from your shoes and feet when you're walking around. It's disgusting and even though many don't get sick from it, it can still affect you in ways you would think was related to something else. I wouldn't feed it to an animal, why feed it to myself? Just be careful and do your best to not spill anything. I'm sure we can all do that if we pay attention. I'm dis-coordinated and I know what I'm talking about (it's major). If I pay attention, I will be less likely to spill (and if I slip, I can still catch it so it doesn't spill). If I can do this, others should be able to as well.

Rule: If you drop pudding, apple sauce and anything else that is wet, don't pick it up. If it's dry, like a jelly bean or natural popcorn (no butter), then pick it up and eat it, there's no problem.

  10. First of all, if you follow this rule then no, it shouldn't apply to any liquid objects. BUT, that rule is actually a lie and has been disproved because it takes less than a second for harm causing bacteria to access products that have touched it. So, you shouldn't eat food that's been on the ground.

  11. the five second rule is actually not true at all. it doesnt matter how little the food has been on the ground, itss have the same amount if you wait five seconds, so im guessing pudding and applesauce applies too.

  12. if the foods liquidy or wet like that, i wouldnt apply the 5 second rule to it

  13. Depends on what kind of pudding. If its something like  jelly, then it'll get covered in germs and you shouldn't eat it.

  14. I don't live by that rule as I have a cat and don't wanna to eat fur :)

I couldn't eat off the floor.

  15. lol no i dont think so because normally u just pick something up that u can hold but i mean normally its how clean your floor is

  16. I don't think so.
