okay, so I have done enough research on the internet and through books, and I just want to ask real people about these apperantly wonderful pets. my first question is, are they hard to find, do a lot of stores have them, because I became interested when my pet store had them but now they don't so I just need to find more, another thing, how long do they live and approximately what is the length of thier metamorphosis from larva to salamander, I feel like both larva and salamander are interesting pets and I wanna know how long before I have to buy the moss and bedding for a salamander on land, also can I feed it mealworms, some people say I can others say only occaisionally, I know if they don't eat them to remove the mealworms but I just wanna know, thanks everyone!

  1. Tiger Salamanders in the USA are endangered and against the law to have as pets.  You must be talking about another species "called" Tiger Salamander.

I don't know the fine details of this animal because I don't know the "exact" species, but this I do know:  Do NOT feed it Mealworms.  The hard shell makes them difficult to digest and can create problems.  Feed them only crickets, which can be purchased in all sizes from local pet stores, or in large quantities from Rainbow Mealworms where they are much cheaper, and can be mailed to you.

  2. Yes they are endangered. Also in nature they live under leaves and in the soil so you only see them in the spring when they come out to breed.

So they don't make good pets.

There other types of salamanders and frogs that you can buy in pet stores.

If you want a salamander for a pet you should get a species that is not threatened.
