Reggie Bullock leads as North Carolina Tar Heels rout Tennessee State Tigers 102-69: NCAA Basketball
Reggie Bullock recorded a career-high 23 points – including 14 in the first half - to lead North Carolina Tar Heels in a 102-69 blowout win over the Tennessee State Tigers on November 22, 2011 at the Dean E. Smith Center, Chapel
Hill. The first seeds cracked the 100-point mark for the second time in the last three days and remained unbeaten in the tournament before heading west for their second cross-country trip of the month.
What made Bullock’s 23 points so amazing was that he did it on only eight shots from the field (missing only two) including 6 for 7 from three-point range. The six three-pointers were also a career high for the 6 ft 7 in guard,
who also grabbed four rebounds in the victory.
“It is a big relief because I have been thinking about my shot so much,” Bullock said of his brilliant performance after the game. “I just need to make shots, that is what I’m here for. I just came out tonight and just did not
think about it anymore. I am just catching and shooting from now on.”
John Henson also had a great game with 16 points, 10 rebounds and a career-best six assists. Harrison Barnes also added 16 points while the sophomore point guard Kendall Marshall played a fabulous floor game with 15 assists. Tyler
Zeller came off the bench with 12 points on 6 for 9 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds for the Tar Heels.
Kellen Thornton led Tennessee State with 15 points on a 7 for 10 shooting from the floor. Kenny Moore had with 14 points – hitting a brilliant 4 for 6 from downtown – while Patrick Miller ended with 10 points, four assists, three
rebounds and two steals.
North Carolina dominated from the floor, shooting 62.1 percent from the field, 61.1 percent beyond the three-point arc and 56.3 percent from free throw line. Tennessee State, on the other hand, shot just 39.4 percent from the floor,
35.5 percent from downtown, and 40 percent from the line.
Coming off four straight victories, the Tar Heels played at a quick pace early in the first half and held a 33-17 lead. The Tigers responded though and reeled off a 13-2 run, cutting their deficit to four with 6:21 to go. However,
North Carolina regained the momentum and pulled away with a 55-42 lead at halftime.
They then opened the second half on a 14-3 run to put the game to bed.
