Reggie Bush out for at least 6 weeks with broken leg
New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush is expected to miss six weeks because of a broken bone in his right leg, a league source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora on Tuesday.
Bush left the Saints Monday night game against the 49ers in the fourth quarter. The injury happened with 6:58 remaining in the game, when Bush muffed a punt and scrambled to recover the ball.
"Last second it kind of shifted a little bit, just enough for me to drop it," he said. "I tried to recover it and somebody took my leg out. I don't know who it was, what happened or how it happened. I just know my leg got taken out. That's it."
"It hurt like h**l," Bush said. "When I got back up and tried to walk on it, it felt terrible."
The injury comes as the final blow in what was a difficult week for Bush. Last Tuesday, Bush gave back his 2005 Heisman Trophy, awarded to the outstanding college football player for that year.
The NCAA had concluded that Bush broke rules by taking money and gifts from sports agents while he was still in college.
"It's been a pretty tough week," said Bush. "It's just the way life goes.
"I'm just trying not to think the worst and just try to stay as positive as I can in this situation," he said. "That's all you can do, hope for the best."
The Saints will certainly miss Bush, one of the more versatile players in the league. While he may not get a lot of touches in the New Orleans offence, Bush is a wildcard that can do a lot of things on the football field, and forces defences to pay attention
to him, creating opportunities for his teammates.
