Reggie Jackson felicitates St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols for his new record – MLB World Series
The St. Louis Cardinals’ first baseman Albert Pujols revealed on Monday that Reggie Jackson called him to congratulate on his record three homers in Game 3 of the World Series.
Reggie Jackson who matched the record of Babe Ruth for three homers in 1977 continues to inspire the baseball players and fans.
While Albert Pujols went for three magnificent homers, guiding the team to an impressive 16-7 win, Jackson was responsible for doing it for the New York Yankees in 1977 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"I spoke to him early this morning," Pujols said of Jackson after the Rangers defeated the Cardinals, 4-0 in Game 4 to tie the best-of-seven Series at two games apiece. "It was real nice. He told me how blessed I was to be in the same realm as him and Babe
Ruth.”
Jackson has the distinction of being in the Hall of Fame, as he had a wonderful record of having hit three homers on the successive pitches of three pitchers. His feat enabled the New York Yankees to win the World Series title of 1977 with five RBIs.
Albert Pujols, on the other hand, went for three home-runs and got six RBIs in Game 2 of the World Series. Not only that, he has already set a new record of having had four hits in the four consecutive games that he played in the World Series with a total
of 14 bases.
With the record that Pujols made, leading to the team’s victory, he felt buoyed for having received Jackson’s call on the eve of another World Series game. Pujols said, “It was very complimentary. I really appreciated him taking the time. He didn't have
to do that. It tells you what kind of person he is."
While Ruth and Jackson were able to put their team on the victory stand, helping win the World Series, it remains to be seen how Albert Pujols will manage to do it. He has so far contributed to one big win in the World Series. With the Cardinals now down
to 3-2 in the best-of-seven Series, a lot depends on the player to match the record of Ruth and Jackson.
