Reggie Miller proud to have two Hall of Famers in his family – NBA News
As Reggie Miller prepares to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday, it is not the 25,279 points he has scored in his NBA career which ranks 14th all time, nor his 2,560 three pointers
which rank number 2 all time that makes him proud.
In fact, Miller is proud of the fact that both he and his sister, Cheryl Miller, will be the only siblings that will enter the basketball hall of fame as players.
“I think it's more cool for the Miller family to have a brother-sister act in the Hall of Fame. That's what I'm most excited about because no one else can say that. This Miller family, it's not too shabby. They have a brother and
sister who are both in the Basketball Hall of Fame,” said Miller.
Miller will be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Lidia Alexeeva, Don Barksdale, Mel Daniels, Phil Knight, Katrina McClain, Hank Nichols, Don Nelson, Ralph Sampson, Chet Walker and Jamaal Wilkes.
Miller does have a point. Rarely do we see siblings being inducted into the hall of fame in any sport. There are a few examples in ice hockey, and brothers d**k and Al McGuire have been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame
as coaches, but rarely do we see siblings entering the hall of fame of a sport. Hence, Miller is proud of this fact the most and has every right to be so.
Although Miller was one of the most prolific scorers of his time and was particularly skilled in knocking down three point shots, he insists that he never thought of himself as a Hall of Fame player and never thought about whether
he would make it to the Hall of Fame or not.
"I didn't play the game to make the Hall of Fame. I never allowed myself to say, 'I need to be in there with Magic, Charles and Michael (Jordan).' That's not my personality. That's for others to judge and say, 'He belongs with
them',” said Miller.
Miller is currently working as an analyst on TNT Tv and enjoying his time there, but he has not ruled out a front office role for himself in the future. The chances of that happening may have increased after Donnie Walsh took over
as the President of the Indiana Pacers after former President Larry Bird retired at the end of the season. Walsh was the only General Manager-President during Miller’s 18 year stint with the Pacers and maybe the one person who can convince him to take a front
office position with his former team.
