As Miller prepares to be inducted into the hall of fame over the weekend, fans are anticipating a return to the Pacers in an executive capacity.....
As Reggie Miller prepares to bask in glory this weekend and witness the culmination of all the hard work he put in over his extensive 18 year NBA career by being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, there is only one
question on the minds of all Reggie Miller fans.
Will he return to Indiana to take a front office position with the franchise he helped build?
Miller is a true representation of everything the Indiana Pacers stand for, partly because he helped build the culture and status of the franchise. Over his 18 year career in the NBA, Miller has been associated with only one team,
and that team were the Pacers. He helped the team reach the heights of success, and was their franchise player and poster boy in the 1990’s when the Pacers were one of the most formidable teams in the league.
He is a household name and a celebrity in the city of Indiana, and people love him over there. Considering the deep and special bond that he has with the Pacers, it is only natural for Miller to return to the city at a time when
excitement around the franchise is once again building up and the Pacers have a great roster that is capable of doing great things.
“I never close any doors. I listen to everything. (Owner) Herb Simon and I have had this conversation before. So yes, if something presented itself, I would definitely look at it and go from there,” said Miller during an interview
with Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star.
The Pacers are big on loyalty, and do not let the people who have been attached to the organization go. For the past 30 years, the President of the Pacers basketball operations has been either Donnie Walsh or Larry Bird. Walsh
recently returned for his second stint with the Pacers, after former president resigned from his post in June. Walsh is also excited about the idea of having Miller back in Indiana.
“I’m always interested. Reggie would be a wonderful person to have in this franchise,” said Pacers owner Herb Simon.
After retiring from the league in 2005, Miller took a job with TNT as an NBA analyst, and has become a regular on the Western Conference scene over the past few years. He resides in California, and is enjoying his new profession
and running his production company titled “Boom Baby Productions”.
The Pacers are gradually returning to the Eastern Conference stage,. They finished third in the East last season and went on to lose in the second round of the playoffs to the eventual champions, the Miami Heat. The team has a
good group of young talent in their roster and are expected to grow further in the seasons to come. Miller's arrival in the franchise might just be the kick they need to take them that one step further.
