Reggie Willits regrets Brandon Wood going to Minor League
Brandon Wood recently got the boot from the Los Angeles Angels. The shortstop got reassigned to the Minor Leagues and it wasn’t a surprise, given his postings on the books, this season. The player has been involved in six games so far and his 14 At Bats
have only generated two hits.
Reggie Willits, who plays on the outfield, was saddened by the announcement.
The two players have gone a long way to know each other and they have been teammates for a long time, climbing through the farm system and riding the Salt Lake to Anaheim shuttle, together.
"If I felt as bad as I did", Willits said, "I can only imagine how Brandon felt. He's one of my best friends, a guy I'd do anything for. I know it's the nature of the game. I don't think you ever forget it's a business. We all know every day you have is
a blessing.
I know Brandon's going to go out and get an opportunity, and if he gets an opportunity to play every day, he's going to play well. I truly believe he has the skill set to be an everyday Major League player".
Willits further spoke about the shortstop, claiming that even though Wood may not look to be an everyday player, he may still use the situation to his benefit. He stressed that the player can use the negative situation to his advantage in preparing for the
game more delicately.
He elaborated that it gets hard to perform on the highest level when there are no consistent At-Bats. He said that the hitter can hit in inconsistent appearances and that is something he has been a witness to since he was signed.
Wood’s problem has been his hitting and his six appearances have seen him collect three bases. His batting average is .143 and his slugging percentage plus the on base percentage is .357. The numbers do not back his calibre up with the Major League format.
The Angels will want to work out his problems in the minor league.
