How do you play a region 2(intended for Japan, Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East, including Egypt) DVD in America??

  1. You'll need a DVD player that can play DVDs from all regions. Most DVD players sold in the US will only play Region 1 DVDs, and can't be easily modified. The company Oppo makes DVD players that can be modified to be "region free" using some instructions you can find on the internet. If you watch a lot of movies from other regions, that might be a good investment. The region setting on a lot of laptop and computer DVD drives can be changed, but usually only 3 to 5 times before you will be locked in to a particular setting.

    You can buy Oppo players online.

    Also, if you ever want to watch European DVDs, make sure to get a player that can play PAL discs.
