Register a boat with no title, and never before register?

this boat is more than 10 years old sittin in my garage. my friend just gave it 2 me.. its only a 14-ft boat. so again never registerd, no title no bill of sale nothing. friend died like 4 years ago. im gettin a little older and want 2 use this simple boat. what can i do. i live in mass.

call local fish and game dept they can help you get a title and inspect it for you i did this in texas

In most states, boats are registered with the Fish and Game or Fish and Wildlife departments.  A few states have other arrangements.  Contact the nearest office of the correct agency to find out what the procedure is.

In my state if you build a boat or receive one as a gift, they ask you to sign a 2-paragraph letter explaining how you got it, and they will use this to issue a title.
